The daily routine at St Nicolas Playgroup gives our children a sense of security. We ensure there is a predictable structure to each day whilst leaving enough time for spontaneous activities.
8.45 – 9.15 Early drop off session (extra fee). Children arrive and help the staff set out the toys and activities for the day.
9.15 – 9.45 On arrival, parents and children are greeted by a member of staff. The children hang their bags and coats on their peg and they locate their own name tag. Children then play until registration time
9.45 – 10.15 Registration and circle time. We use this time to discuss the day of the week, weather, our theme of the week and the activities available during that session
10:15 – 11:15 Children independently explore a range of activities that have been set out and which change each day and focus on our theme of the week. During this time, children have free flow access to our outdoor area. Snack is provided in groups sitting round a table with their peers. The children have fruit/vegetables and plain biscuits/crackers/breadsticks. Water is always available and milk is offered at snack time.
11:15 – 11:45 Depending on the day of the week, the children have the opportunity to take part in our additional enrichment sessions. These include yoga and mindfulness, gardening club, multi-activity sports, music class and cooking.
11:45 – 12:15 Towards the end of the session the children help with ‘Tidy-Up’ time. To end the morning, we have carpet time where we have a story or sing songs and show and tell. For show and tell the children are encouraged to bring in something special to show the group.
12:15 Morning children are collected. Children staying all day have their packed lunch.
Our afternoon session runs with the same routine as the morning.
